Ashland, OH – Four Killed & Four Injured in Truck Crash on I-71

Ashland, OH (July 30, 2020) – A truck accident late Wednesday evening in Ashland County claimed four victims’ lives and left four others injured. At approximately 11:30 p.m., on July 29, an officer with the Ohio State Highway Patrol attempted to pull over a 2009 Saturn Outlook, occupied by seven people, on Interstate 71 just south of US Highway 250.

The driver of the Saturn pulled over to the berm. As the trooper began to instruct the driver to pull ahead and further over, a semi-truck crashed into the Saturn and came to rest on top of it. Several local emergency crews rushed to the site of the collision. Four people inside the Saturn were immediately pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Three other people inside the Saturn sustained critical injuries. All three victims were transported via medical helicopter to area hospitals for treatment. The 54-year-old driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. State Troopers closed off the southbound lanes of the highway into Thursday morning to investigate. At this time, investigations surrounding the accident are ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the four victims injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

We would like to extend our warmest condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in this accident.

Fatal Truck Accidents in Ohio

Ashland, OH – Four Killed & Four Injured in Truck Crash on I-71

For over 20-years, the state of Ohio has strictly enforced move over laws along state roads and highways. This law requires vehicles to move over or slow down if law enforcement officers, tow truck drivers, or emergency responders are parked on the site of the road. Although these laws are designed to protect those who protect us, there are many instances where drivers fail to follow these laws. As a result, they cause devastating motor vehicle collisions.

Every year, more than 1,100 people lose their lives in motor vehicle collisions throughout our state. Accidents involving semi-truck account for over 10% of these collisions. The size and weight of 18-wheelers, combined with traveling at high rates of speed, increase the chances that people involved in collisions with them will be fatally injured. When victims lose their lives in truck accidents, their families are often left with overwhelming pain and suffering. In many cases, these accidents force families to spend tens of thousands of dollars on unexpected funeral costs. Although it may seem like no amount of compensation could ever make us whole again after experiencing the loss of a loved one, filing a wrongful death lawsuit in Cleveland helps grieving families collect the compensation they need to cover the costs they face after losing a loved one.
