Barberton, OH (October 31, 2020) – A fire incident reported on Friday morning claimed one man’s life. At approximately 3:30 a.m., on October 30, the Barberton Fire Department responded to the scene of a fire incident on West Lake Avenue.
Reports show that a major fire broke out on the second floor of a home located at the corner of West Lake Avenue and First Street NW. The fire overtook the come and caused widespread damage to the two-story boarding home.
Several residents were able to exit the home before suffering any injuries. Firefighters rushed to the scene and began battling the blaze as medical personnel tended to injured victims at the scene.
While battling the blaze, crews noticed one person trapped on the second floor. Crews extended a ladder to the man’s window. The victim, identified as John Davis, sustained severe injuries in the fire. He was rescued and transported to Summa Barberton Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
